Training

MindOut has been providing LGB&T Affirmative Practice Training to both mental health and substance misuse service providers for the last 11 years.  Our very first consultation meetings with service users highlighted demands for all professionals to have had training in LGB&T issues.

'An awareness of the mental health needs of LGB people and their increased risk of     mental hdisorders should become a standard part of training for health and social work professionals.'    Michael King 2008

Please see below flier advertising the training we offer.  Please contact us and we can discuss your requirements.  We are happy to design bespoke training.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Affirmative Practice Training

Research shows that many LGBT people do not find local health services are welcoming and supportive.  LGBT people have specific mental health needs, many of them unmet.

Research into LGBT mental health repeatedly calls for focussed training for mental health professionals.

MindOut has over a decade of experience working with and delivering training on LGBT mental health.  Our one day training package covers:

  • LGBT identities
  • diversity within LGBT communities
  • prejudice, discrimination and stigma
  • mental health issues for LGBT people
  • trans care pathways
  • good practice in delivering LGBT affirmative services
  • monitoring for sexual orientation and gender
  • resources

Taking an interactive, team approach to learning, participants will gain insight and skills in assessing and addressing the needs of LGBT clients and gain confidence in dealing with heterosexism, homophobia and transphobia.  We will explore the experiences of both staff and service users in relation to LGBT issues.  Teams will develop Action Plans to develop good practice within their service area.

Costs

Current rates are £600 per day for statutory organisations, £450 for voluntary/independent organisations
