Join the debate on care and support
The Government wants to hear people’s views on how to create a high quality, affordable care and support system in a way that promotes independence, choice and control for everyone well into the future.
The debate on the future of care and support was launched by the
Prime Minister in May and the Government intends to publish a Green Paper in early 2009.
Care and support is about the activities, services and relationships that help people remain independent, active and healthy.
Projections show that in 2027 there will be an estimated £6 billion gap in funding required for social care every year. In addition, the cost of disability benefits is projected to increase by 50 per cent and we expect over 1.7 million more people to have a need for care and support in 20 years' time. The Government therefore believes that a radical rethink of the care and support system is required to help address these challenges.
